⚠️ **US notation.** This pattern uses at least one abbreviation that means a different stitch in UK notation (UK "dc" is US "sc"; UK "tr" is US "dc"). Work it as US, or read the UK column in the key below.

## Abbreviations used

| In the pattern | US abbreviation | Stitch name (US) | UK abbreviation | What it is |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| sl | sl st | Slip stitch | ss | |
| sc | sc | Single crochet | dc | |
| hdc | hdc | Half double crochet | htr | |
| join | sl st | Join | ss | slip-st close a round |
| fasten off | FO | Fasten off | FO | cut & fasten off |

The UK column is the abbreviation a UK-notation reader would use for the SAME stitch. Where it differs from the US one, following the pattern with UK meanings produces the wrong stitch height.

## How the notation reads

- `(sc, inc) x6` — repeat what is in the brackets 6 times — also written 6x (sc, inc)
- `3 hdc in one st` — all three stitches go into the SAME base stitch
- `sc around` — one sc into every stitch of the round below, as many as that round has — also written sc in each st around, and sc across on a row
- `FLO / BLO` — work into the front / back loop only, leaving the other loop free
- `chain worked around both sides` — an oval base: work down the foundation chain, a group of stitches around its far link, then back along the chain's free loops
